New Launderette Opens

Once again Ruddington has a self-service launderette! Ruddington Cleaners has just opened the facility as part of its new dry cleaning and laundry business on the site of the former Village Motors garage.

Since the closure of Speedy Clean (now home to Bar Six/Jasper’s Café) on Dutton’s Hill, in February 2011, villagers have had to rely on clothing collections at Ruddington Post Office and Grange News for their dry cleaning needs. It’s around a decade BEFORE that when our village last had any publicly available washing and drying machines.

Ruddington Cleaners began to offer laundry, dry cleaning and clothing alterations via their entrance at 8, Parkyns Street a couple of months’ ago. Now the self-service launderette has been installed on the Charles Street side – with ten brand new, coin-operated washing machines and dryers of varying capacities in the former workshop.

Ruddington Cleaners’ owner Celestino Picciuto has decades of experience in the trade – having opened his first launderette 32 years’ ago near Bulwell. He told RUDDINGTON.info“I decided I wanted to move my dry cleaning operation from the unit on Glaisdale Drive to somewhere with a shop front. Then this site in Ruddington came up when the garage closed. So I bought it to transfer over the dry cleaning business – and realised there’d also be plenty of space for a self service launderette. So this is an added bonus for the village. If people want it, and use it, we’ll keep it!”

The new facility is open every day except Sunday. Here’s hoping it’s well supported.
